Referring to the proposed "Pacific Cable" and to the printed “Forms of Contract, Specification and Tender" received from you :— WE, the undersigned, hereby agree
to manufacture and lay the Types and Lengths of Cable described in the Contract and Specification No. 3, contained in the said print, and to carry out the manufacture and laying of such Cable in accordanet: with the terms of the said Contract and Specification, and to complete the manufacture and laying of the same by the under-mentioned dates, for the undermentioned sums, viz. :-

The date of completion of the above depends upon the time, beyond 31st July, 1902, required by the Telegraph Construction Company to undertake Contract No. 3 in addition to Contract No. 1, also upon the reservation of the Silvertown Company meu- tioned in Combination A.
The separation, however, of the work of laying the cables of Contracts Nos. 1 and 3 by some 2,000 miles of distance would make the shipping arrangements extremely awkward and inconvenient, and would add greatly to the delay.

DEAR SIRS.
Is handing you the enclosed Tender for the construction and laying of Contract No. 3 of the proposed Pacific Cable, we have to inform you that it is with regret that we only make the Tender on the condition to which we are about to refer.
A large part of the amount of the Tender consists, you are aware, of the cost of the Gutta Percha' Insulator, and it may be within your knowledge that the market for this article is in a very few hands. We do not know how much gutta perelia is held by cable manufacturers, but we are aware that since the issue of the l'acific Cable Specifica-- tion and Tender, practically the whole of the gutta percha suitable for the Cable has been taken off the market.
