I HAVE the honour to inform you that the Acting Resident Commissioner of the Solomon Islands Protectorate has forwarded a demand order on the Crown Agents for the Colonies for £142, and has requested that the amount, being the third donation subscribed by residents of the Protectorate for the Prince of Wales's National Relief Fund, may be paid to the Treasurer of the fund.

2. I have to request that you will cause a grateful acknowledgment of this contribution to be conveyed to the subscribers.

Office of the High Commissioner for the Western Pacific,

Suva, Fiji, 25th February, 1915. WITH reference to my despatch of the 28th ultimo, I have the honour to forward a further letter from the Agent and Consul, Tonga, enclosing, with lists of subscribers, cheques for £69 178. Od., being the total of the additional amounts received from the natives and residents of Nukualofa and Haapai, as contributions to the Prince of Wales's National Relief Fund.

2. I have requested Mr. Grant to cause all subscribers to the fund to be informed how highly His Majesty's Government appreciate this further proof of the generosity and loyalty of the people of Tonga.

The sum of £69 17s. Od. will be transmitted in due course, through the usual channel, to the Treasurer in London of the National Relief Fund.

4. The request made by Mr. Chatfield, who has been instrumental in collect- ing subscriptions in Haapai, will be complied with.

SIR,

REFERRING to my letter dated 18th ultimo,* on the subject of the Prince of Wales's National Relief Fund, I have the honour to advise Your Excellency that I have received and brought to account further subscriptions amounting to £399 9s., particulars of which are shown on attached statement.

2. This, and previous sums advised, have been credited in this office to the 'Prince of Wales's Deposit Account" and should be paid to the Secretary of State

by the Crown Agents from Protectorate funds. I advised Your Excellency in error

in my previous letters that these sums had been credited to the current account of the High Commissioner.

3. A draft from Protectorate funds of £2,500 has been forwarded to the Crown Agents by this mail in order that there may be sufficient funds to meet the payments.

4. A copy of this letter is being sent direct to the Secretary of State.
