THE HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR NEW ZEALAND to COLONIAL OFFICE.

London, S. W., 17th July, 1913. REFERRING to your letter of the 20th February last, No. 3732,* and to the last paragraph of mine of the 29th May,† with regard to the nomination of the representative of New Zealand on the Managing Committee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology, I am now directed by the High Commissioner to inform you that, on behalf of the New Zealand Government, he nominates Mr. Ernest E. Austen, of the Entomological Department of the Natural History Section of the British Museum, as the representative of New Zealand on that Committee.

As you are aware, Mr. Austen is already a member of the Committee, and the Trustees of the British Museum have kindly given their consent to his acting as New Zealand's representative. The High Commissioner will be glad, therefore, to learn that Mr. Austen's nomination has been duly recorded.

I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 14th of July, stating that Mr. F. V. Theobald will represent the Commonwealth Government on the Managing Committee of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology.

2. This information will be communicated to the Committee at their next General Meeting.

I am to add that Lord Crewe proposes, if Mr. Secretary Harcourt sees no objection, to nominate a representative to sit on the Committee, and has, at the suggestion of the Chairman of the Committee, approached Mr. Lefroy with a view to securing his services in this capacity. It is proposed that he should attend the meeting of the Committee on the 25th instant.

SIR,

I AM directed by the Secretary of State for India in Council to inform you, with reference to my letter of the 31st December last, § that the Government of India have now reported that the Governing Body of the Indian Research Fund have decided to contribute £500 a year for a period of three years towards the objects of the Imperial Bureau of Entomology. This decision is based on the value of the work to be undertaken by the Bureau in its sanitary, as well as its agricultural, aspects; and it is presumed, with reference to paragraph 5 of your letter, No. 12909, of the 5th June, 1913,|| on the subject of Major James's yellow fever Report, that the grant will place the Entomological Research Committee in a position to carry out the proposed inquiry regarding stegomyia suggested by Major James. sum in question (£500) will be paid by this Office on receipt of a receivable order.
