Wrrи reference to your despatch, Miscellaneous, of the 12th July,* I have the honour to state that this Government will contribute the sum of £50 a year towards the expenses of the Entomological Research Committee, in connection with the exten- sion of their work if all the West Indian Colonies share in the expense, and I have to-day telegraphed† to you to this effect, as requested in paragraph 5 of your despatch under reference. St. Lucia, 14th September, 1912. WITH reference to my telegram of the 23rd August, I have the honour to submit despatches from the Administrators of Grenada and St. Vincent confirming the willingness of those Colonies to contribute annually the amounts specified to the Entomological Research Committee.

A copy of a minute by the Acting Colonial Secretary of St. Lucia to the same effect is also attached.

2. I shall be glad if you will cause the Crown Agents to be instructed as to the payment in due course of the several annual contributions.

Government House, St. Vincent, 6th September, 1912. WITH reference to the Secretary of State's despatch, Grenada, Miscellaneous,

of the 12th July last, I have the honour to state for the information and approval

of Mr. Harcourt that the Legislative Council, on the 3rd instant, unanimously voted the sum of Five pounds (£5) as St. Vincent's share for the year 1912 of the West Indian contribution towards the Entomological Research Committee.

2. A similar sum will be provided each succeeding year in the financial Estimates.

3. I should be glad if the Crown Agents be instructed to pay to the Committee that sum from the funds of this Colony in their keeping, and to continue to do so annually in July.

ACTING COLONIAL SECRETARY to ACTING Governor.

With reference to the Secretary of State's despatch, Grenada (General), Mis- cellaneous, of the 12th of July last, on the subject of contributions by the West Indian Colonies to the Entomological Research Committee, I beg to report that the matter was fully explained to and discussed by the Legislative Council on the 7th February when the draft Estimates for 1912-13 were under consideration, and that it was then decided, mainly on initiative of the Unofficial Members, that the vote on the Estimates of £15 for " Entomological Research and Museum" should be increased to £25 to enable the Colony to make an annual contribution of £10 to the Committee, while providing more fully for local work.
