No. 167.

SIERRA LEONE.

THE GOVERNOR to THE SECRETARY OF STATE.

(Received 22 December, 1913.)

[Answered 6th January, 1914, by 43774 in Miscellaneous No. 303,]

(No. 615.) SIR,

Government Ilouse, Sierra Leone, 6th December, 1913. WITH reference to your despatch, Miscellaneous, of the 17th October,* I have the honour to inform you that the Acting Director of Education has kindly under- taken to collect a series of suitable photographs for the use of the Visual Instruction Committee, and that these will be forwarded as soon as the collection is complete. Mr. Lean informs me that he has reason to believe that a number of officials and other residents would be prepared to lend their collections of plates, films, or prints to the Committee, provided that the cost of carriage and damage (if any) are made good; I presume that the Committee would be willing to agree to this.

2.

In the meantime Mr. T. J. Alldridge, who has an extensive collection of views illustrative of the scenery and of the different aspects of life of the inhabitants of this Colony and Protectorate, has kindly promised to place his collection at the disposal of the Committee and to communicate with the Colonial Office on his return to England. Mr. Alldridge left for England by the mail of the 3rd instant..

I have, &c.,

E. EVELYN,

Deputy-Governor.
