October G (Rec. Oct. 29.)

Transmits a copy of No. 144; states that it is doubtful whether any further action in this matter can be taken pending the Commissioners' final report; but draws attention to the great care which is at present being taken in the selection of emi- grants, and suggests that the Indian Commissioners should be instructed to study the conditions in the recruit- ing districts in India and the airange- ments at the depôt before submitting their report.

Transmits a copy of No. 148; considers that any proposals involving the treatment of emigrants for ankylos- tome infection in depôt or on board ship should be definitely negatived, and that the end in view will be more readily attained if the examina- tion and treatment of coolies are carried out on their arrival in the Colony, and proposes to communi- cate in this sense with the Governors of the Colonies concerned.
