I herewith enclose a list of my publications and those of my colleagues in the laboratory from which you may gather the nature of the work which we have been carrying on. The recent work on the treatment of redwater was carried out with the aid of a special grant from the Colonial Office; the actual experiments were conducted at Alperton, Middlesex, at the farm of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Our having to go away from Cambridge to conduct the experiments on redwater, simply because of lack of accommodation for a few head of cattle, was a source of very great inconvenience and no little personal expense.

The representatives of the various colonies who visited Cambridge in July at the time of the Conference in London were, I believe, impressed with the import- ance of the work we are conducting. The great interests involved render it desirable that we should press on with the work we have begun and to which we are giving our whole attention.

Downing Street, 3 November, 1909. I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Sir H. Clifford's despatch, No. 531, of the 21st of August last, reporting the approval of the Finance Com- mittee of the Legislative Council of the continuance of the grant of £100 a year to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund for a further period of five years com- mencing from 1910.

2. The Crown Agents have pointed out that the last annual contribution from Ceylon funds was made in respect of the year 1908, and that they have received no authority for its payment in respect of the year 1909. A sum of Rs. 1,500 is inserted in the Colonial Estimates on this account for 1909, and I have accordingly authorised the Crown Agents to pay the sum of £100 to the fund from Ceylon funds in respect of 1909.
