requesting them to continue for a period of five years the grants hitherto made to the Research Fund.
3. Lord Crewe has no hesitation in recommending to their Lordships, for favourable consideration, that the grant of £1,000 a year now made from Imperial funds to the Research Fund should be extended for a period of five years from the 1st of April, 1910, when the present grant will cease.
4. Their Lordships will observe that very considerable grants in proportion to their resources are already made by the Colonies and Protectorates, and Lord Crewe has no hesitation saying that it would be a calamity if the admirable work now being done by the Research Fund should have to be curtailed or discontinued as a result of the reduction of the Imperial contribution.

I should be obliged if you would endeavour to secure that in the next annual report from your Government somewhat fuller information can be supplied.

Downing Street, 12 March, 1909.
SIR,
IN my Circular despatch of the 11th of March§ I transmitted to you a copy of the Report of the Tropical Diseases Research Fund Advisory Committee for
1908.
2. I observe that in some cases the report on anti-malarial measures asked for in my predecessor's Circular despatch of the 6th of June, 1906,|| has not been furnished at all, and that in others the information supplied is somewhat meagre.
3. I am well aware of the many duties thrown on medical officers in the tropical Colonies of the Empire, and in no way do I wish to add to their burden. But the interest felt in this country in anti-malarial measures is very great, and
