SPECIAL WORK UNDERTAKEN.
Cadastral Branch.
1. Special work in mapping the sleeping sickness area was allotted to a licensed surveyor. The resulting map has been found not wholly satisfactory; and the work presented no features of sufficient interest to call for remarks.
A rapid allotment survey east of the Nandi country was also undertaken. Lack of time and staff, and the death of Mr. H. Cox prevented this plane-table work being based on a good triangulation. Nevertheless, the resulting maps on a scale of 1/62,500 are good, and reflect great credit on lance-corporals Thornton and Durkan, Royal Engineers, who were quite new to the country when they were detailed for this Maps Published During the Year.
work.
1. None have been published, the staff of plane-tablers having only begun to reach this country in January last.
2. On the other hand a great many manuscript plans of isolated areas have been drawn for various departments.
Miscellaneous Matters.
1. I doubt not that many interesting points have occurred during the past year on which the Director of Surveys would have wished to report. In his absence
