Reports that the Government of Trinidad have called upon them to erect a hospital for the benefit of coolies, and enquires before incurring the necessary expenditure, as to the policy of the Government with respect to the Brussels Sugar Convention.
Informe them that the Secretary of State is not at present in a position to state what course His Majesty's Government will take with regard to the Brussels Sugar Convention.
Forwards copies of resolutions passed by the Agricultural and Commercial Society on May 4th urging the continuance of Brussels Convention.
Forwards resolution of the Westmore- land Sugar Planters' Association, Jamaica, expressing alarm at the decision of the Imperial Government to denounce the Brussels Convention; calls attention to the danger to West Indian interests and suggests the desirability of allowing the Colonies to make reciprocal arrangements with the United States.
Forwards copy of a despatch from Sir H. G. Bergne, reporting a conversation with the President of the Sugar Commission on matters connected with the Convention.
Informs them that the Secretary of State is not at present in a position to state what course will be taken by His Majesty's Government with regard to the Brussels Convention.
Forwards copy of a letter from the Board of Trade suggesting a com- munication to the Belgian Govern- ment in reply to the despatch enclosed in No. 5.
