THE CROWN ÅGENTS AND THEIR STAFF,

Crown Agents Number and Salaries.

An account of the origin of the Crown Agents for the Colonies will be found in an extract from a Memorandum by Sir Penrose Julyan printed

on pp. 5-8 of [C. 3075.] A recent account of

their position and duties will be found on

6-8 of [Cd. 1944]. From 1833 to 1877 there were two Crown Agents.

In 1858 their salaries were :

Mr. Barnard died, and in 1862 Mr. Julyan was promoted to be First Crown Agent on £1,000 and Mr. Sargeaunt appointed to be Junior Crown Agent on £700. In 1863 their salaries were fixed at £1,000 by £50 annually to £1,200 and £700 by £30 annually to £900.

In 1876-7 the salaries were:
