LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.
Doctors' Commons, April 30, 1861. We are honoured with your Lordship's commands signified in Mr. Hammond's letter of the 6th April last, stating that he was directed to transmit to us the accom- panying letter from the Colonial Office, enclosing an Act passed by the Legislature of Canada entitled "An Act respecting the 96th chapter of the Consolidated Statutes of Upper Canada respecting the apprehension of fugitive offenders in foreign countries," and to request that we would take this paper into consideration and report to your Lordship our opinion whether there is any objection to leaving this Act to its operation.

In compliance with your Lordship's instructions we have taken this subject into consideration, and have the honour to

That in our opinion there is nothing contrary to law or justice in the Act passed by the Legislature of Canada, and to which our attention has been directed by Mr. Ham- mond's letter, and we therefore see no objection to leaving it to its operation.
