(CANADA.)
LAW OFFICERS to FOREIGN OFFICE.
MY LORD,
Lincoln's Inn, March 4, 1865. We are honoured with your Lordship's commands, signified in Mr. Hammond's letter of the 27th of February ultimo, stating that he was directed by your Lordship to transmit to us a letter from the Colonial Office, enclosing a copy of an Act passed by the Canadian Legislature for the prevention and repression of outrages on the frontier of Canada, and to request that we would take this Act into consideration and favour your Lordship at our early convenience with any observations which we might have to offer thereupon.
Mr. Hammond was at the same time to request that we would report to your Lordship our opinion whether it is necessary that similar Acts should be passed by the Legis- latures of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
In obedience to your Lordship's commands we have taken this matter into conside- ration, and have the honour to
Report
That we are of opinion that the statute is properly framed, and that it would be expedient that a statute with the like provisions should be passed by each of the Legis- latures of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick,
We have, &c.
(Signed)
ROUNDELL PALMER.
R. P. COLLIER.
ROBERT PHILLIMORE.
