Encloses a copy of a Minute from the Poor Law Commissioner asking for a special warrant for Rs. 85,400 as a sup- plementary grant or the Public Works Vote, together with a copy of a state- ment of poor law expenditure for the last three years; and proposes while deprecating this system of relief to sign a warrant authorising a grant, for the present, of Ra, 40,000.
Conveys decision of His Majesty's Gov- ernment as to the extent to which they will bear the expenses of the Commission of Enquiry; encloses memorandum specifying information which should be prepared for the use of the Commissioners.
Asks that the statistics indicated in the enclosed Memorandum may be pre- pared by the Government of India, and forwarded to the Commissioners in Mauritius.
