Acknowledges the receipt of No. 52, and confirms the refusal to reduce the rate of interest for the loan: draws attention to Mr. Leclézio's statement as to the nature of the representations by which Government assistance for the Commercial Bank was procured, and requests to be furnished with the Governor's obser- vations on this point and with a statement showing the variations in the deposits of the Bank during the latter half of January and the month of February.

Regrets that the question of the rate of interest charged to the Commercial Bank cannot be reconsidered.
Acknowledges the receipt of No. 57, and calls attention to unfounded assertions by M. Lealógio as to the motives of the Earl of Elgin in suggesting an en- quiry; points out that the statements made as to the position of the Colony were much exaggerated, and states that the vote of the Council having defl- nitely disposed of the question sub- mitted to it, the appointment of a Commission will not be considered farther at present.
Acknowledges the receipt of No. 63; transmits a copy of No. 62, and re- quests that Dr. Laurent may be in- formed that the King was pleased to receive very graciously the assur ance of loyalty which it contained.
