September 10 Reports receipt of information that the importation of Mexican dollars into Indo-China has been prohibited and the export duty abolished, and points out that the bulk of Mexican dollars then in Indo-China will probably be sent to the Straits if importation is not prohibited.

Sanctions Ordinance No. XIII. of 1903, but points out that the Ordinance re- quires amendment so as to provide that the cost of re-minting shall be borne from general revenue.
Acknowledges receipt of No. 34, and approves generally of the proposals contained therein; confirms Nos. 35 and 36.
Encloses copy of a letter from their Hong Kong manager referring to a suggested exchange by the Straits Government of British dollars in Singapore for bar silver at Bombay: points out advantages and asks that Straits Government may be requested" to make arrangements.
Conveys purport of No. 39, and sees no objection provided dollars supplied are at once shipped out of the Colony: leaves matter to his discretion.

communicates purport of No. 40.
Calls attention to the possibility that, before the ratio of the dollar to gold is fixed, there may be a scarcity of currency and a consequent inflation of exchange; and encloses draft Ordinance to provide against the contingency.
Asked to be informed by telegraph when prohibition to import British and Mexican dollars will come into opera tion, and how many Straite dollars have been circulated.
