Enclosing an extract from the minutes of the Executive Council recommending a re-distribution of the grants in aid of the stipenda of ministers, together with copies of correspondence with the Angli- can Bishop of Mauritius and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Port Louis on the subject.

Enclosing a notice of motion by Dr. Beaugeard in the Council of Government in favour of a re- distribution of the scclmiastical grants on a scale proportioned to the number of adherents of the two churches.

Enclosing a letter from the Bishop of Mauritius requesting that the Secretary of State will suspend his judgment on Dr. Baangeard's motion until he (Bishop Roystou) has been able to lay before Lord Knutsford the position of the Church of England with respect to soclesiastical grants.

Observing that the Secretary of State will defer expressing any opluion upon the questions raised in the Governor's Despatches of 11th July until he is in receipt of the further letter pro- mised by Bishop Royston, and of the reports of the financial officers.

Enclosing a letter from the Bishop of Port Louis covering resolu- tions adopted on the 14th October 1888, by the “Congrès Catho lique de Maurios" on the subject of the unequal distribution of the grants in sid.

Transmitting a letter from the Hon. P. Adam, elected member for Floog, asking that Dr. Bean- guard's motion in the Council of Government may be freely dis- enseed and deelded by the repre- sentatives of the taxpayers.

Enclosing a letter to the Secretary of State from Bishop Royston and others, praying Lord Knuta-, ford to disallow any such transfer of vacant appointments na indi- osted by Dr. Bengoard's motion, snclosed in Governor's Despatch of 11th July.

Conveying the views of Her Majesty's Government upon the motion of Dr. Bangurd with referees to the distribution of the ecclesiastical generis.
