Mr. Prestage has been referred to the Consulting Engineer for his opinion, and transmitting copy of a letter from Mr. Brown, the Managing Director of the Uvah Coffee Company.
Transmitting copy of a question asked in the House of Commons as to the_pomible extension of the Has to Haputale by private enterprise, and asking for his opinion as to how far the Government could make favourable arrangements for carrying their traffic over the main line.
Enclosing copies of a despatch from the Governor, and of a letter from Mr. Prestage, and asking for the opinion of the Crown Agents and the Consulting Engineer thereon.
Observing that the question of the proposed extension to Haputale and Badulla has been again_re- ferred to the Governor, and that, pending an answer, the Secretary of State hardly thinks any good would be gained by an interview.
