Transmitting a report by the Chief Resident Engineer of the Nanu Oya Railway upon the proposed extension to the Haputale Pass, and submitting observations in favour of the extension, which the Executive Council are of opinion should be undertaken without delay.
Requesting to be informed before sanctioning the proposed extension of the Nana Oya Railway to Haputale, whether the work is one which shoukl undoubtedly take precedence of other public works, and, if so, whether the financial prospects of the line are such as to secure the Colonial revenue against a heavy liability.
Submitting, in reply to Colonel Stanley's despatch of 28th Octo- ber, arguments in favour of the construction of thờ rálény extől- sion to Haputale.
Transmitting an Ordinance which had
been passed to enable the con struction of the proposed ditebion to be proceeded with immediately upon the sanction of Her Majesty's Government being given to the work, together with a protest by two Members of the Legislature against the passing of the Ordi- nance, and commenting upon the statements made in this protest. Transmitting copy of a letter from Mr. Prestage, Engineer to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, offering to construct a line from Nanu-Oya to Ura of a similar description to the Darjeeling Rail- way, with a memorandum by Mr. Waring, Chief Resident Engineer to the Nanu-Oya Bailway on the subject, and expressing that the adoption of Mr. Pri proposals is altogether hapo
Transmitting
a summary of the speeches made by members of a deputation which waited on the Secretary of State on the 1st June, to urge the adoption of a narTOW genge line for the Uva district, together with copy of a letter from Mr. Rama Nathan on the subject.
