THE following passage, omitted from the text, completes this despatch:-
5. I have to add that the anticipated change of administration appears to be still in favour with the community, and although some of the servants of the Indian Government, not having been informed of the intention of Her Majesty's Government with respect to their employment, were disposed to consider that they were being hardly dealt with, the measures taken by Colonel Macpherson, at my request, for explaining to them the Liberall treatment that was intended to be extended to them, bas, 1 believe, bad the effect of restoring their confilence, and that they will be found as good servants of the Colonial as they have been of the Indian Government.
