'The Floating Family' (Ta Kwang Ming

production) intended to inspire class hatred by

depicting the vested interests oppression of the

fisherman.

'Awful Truth' (Great Wall production), a

seemingly harmless farce calculated to disparage

the bourgeoisie in general and the Chinese

Nationalist Government in particular, with a

slight dig at the 'American Imperialism' as well.

'Dawn Must Come' (South China production),

subtly awakening the peasants' class consciousness

by showing the villainy of the landed gentry.

A Ta Kwang King production not yet released,

of which the English title is still undecided, is

probably the most subtle of the recent pro-Communist

films. Like Chekov's 'Cherry Orchard', it depicts

the crumbling of the time-honoured Confucian way of

1 fe as embodied in the old Chinese family, thereby

implying the inevitability of accepting the new way

of life as advocated by the Communists.

Deconcentration

Instead of concentrating pro-Communist film

workers in a few studios, they will be gradually

decentralised and planted separately in as many

film companies as possible. Even after the recent

re-organisation of the Yung Hwa Motion Picture

Industries, Ltd., its production department is

still in the hands of a pro-Communist director,

P.K. Chong (Cheng Pu-kao), in spite of the

Company's determination to kick out all pro-

Communist elements.
