Examples.
'The Floating Family' (Ta Kwang Ming
production) intended to inspire class hatred by
depicting the vested interests oppression of the
fisherman.
'Awful Truth' (Great Wall production), a
seemingly harmless farce calculated to disparage
the bourgeoisie in general and the Chinese
Nationalist Government in particular, with a
slight dig at the 'American Imperialism' as well.
'Dawn Must Come' (South China production),
subtly awakening the peasants' class consciousness
by showing the villainy of the landed gentry.
A Ta Kwang King production not yet released,
of which the English title is still undecided, is
probably the most subtle of the recent pro-Communist
films. Like Chekov's 'Cherry Orchard', it depicts
the crumbling of the time-honoured Confucian way of
1 fe as embodied in the old Chinese family, thereby
implying the inevitability of accepting the new way
of life as advocated by the Communists.
Deconcentration
Instead of concentrating pro-Communist film
workers in a few studios, they will be gradually
decentralised and planted separately in as many
film companies as possible. Even after the recent
re-organisation of the Yung Hwa Motion Picture
Industries, Ltd., its production department is
still in the hands of a pro-Communist director,
P.K. Chong (Cheng Pu-kao), in spite of the
Company's determination to kick out all pro-
Communist elements.
