I now see that statement, text of which was sent to you in my telegram No.2, had already been referred to in Far Eastern Economic Review on 15th December.

Before considering whether any further statement is possible, or, indeed, desirable, at present juncture, I should wish to know in what respect you regard statement by Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of 10th December as inadequate particularly when read in conjunction with reply given by Parliamentary

Under-Secretary of State for Colonies to question on 7th July(my telegram No.755 refers),

3. I should also be grateful for your assessment of what reactions to any more precise declaration by His Majesty's Government at present time would be on Hong Kong's relations with Nationalist Government in China, a possible Coalition Government, or a victorious Communist Government.
