of the 12 new houses in Clarence Street, Shek Tong Taui, belonging to Mesars Shar, and Co. of which Messrs Chan Chan Nam and Cheung Tsan are the lessee, I, tinng Wing, rented two Nos 7 and 8 from the 12 moon of last Chinese year, having paid Cheung Tsan $40 for undertaking to put the houses in order and to cbtain the necessary permit for fat boiling.

The two mentioned houses after having been put in order had been visited and passed as suitable by Inspectors Connelly and Watt. Then a permit for fat boiling has been granted by you, sir, Shortly afterwards Mr Chan Chan Nam personally came and took away the permit and did not return it after so many months

under repeated request from me.

I shall be much obliged if you, Sir, will kindly enquire and

ask Mr Chan Chan Nam for what reason he has kept the permit

for such a long time.
