I fully appreciate the present weakness of the garrison and am renewing my previous representations to the Chiefs of Staff on this subject. propose to press for at the very least an assurance of immediate reinforcement in an emergency.

As regards the special points raised in your paragraph 10:-
(a) HKVDC. See my telegram No.1096 Secret.
(b) Eighteen Palestine Police replace- ments should by now have reached the Colony. A nineteenth is en route. The remaining nine are under offer and will be flown out at the earliest possible date.
(c) I am arranging for the Crown Agents to give priority to your indent for arms and ammunition:
