were not tarred more than twice during 1905 ?
Yes, I should be surprised to hear that, and that it
had not been brought to the notice of the M. 0. H.
15412 Would it not be the duty of the Senior Inspector, if he
knows of boats that have been doing double shift, to
make a formal report to the X. 0. H. that they had not
been properly tarred ↑
A.
Yes.

And is it not his duty to report that the work is, or has not been done, in accordance with instructions ?
A.
I think they report that they have been done, and when
they have been done,

If it had not been done, they should certainly have 15314
reported that they had not been done ↑
Yes, certainly.

Do you remember over during 1905 having heard that the
boats had not been properly tarred ↑ Speaking from
memory ↑ We have not prepared you for these questions,
and you have not leaked up notes, but it is a very
important question,
-
dont you remaşkar ↑
I dont think it is se important as all this. What would
happen would be that the Inspector would report to the
M. 0. H. that boat No.so and so had not been barred.
That report would go to the Secretary, who would send
for the contractor, and tall him to tar the beat.
1577616 But if,
- we will say that Mr Hooper's information is
correct - that was so, would not something further be
done, would not the contractor be fined ?
That again is a matter that would be more within the
nognisance of the M. O. H. than the P. 0. M. 0.
