Thank you for your letter of the 10th May (No.D of POLICY (A.8.)296). As you assume we are notifying the Governor of Hong Kong separately of the command arrangements which have been recently agreed there. We have sent a draft despatch on the subject to Stapleton at the Cabinet Offices

for his concurrence. I have asked him to let me know if he agrees with the figures by telephone and as soon as it has been cleared with him the despatch will go to Hong Kong by fast air mail. We will send you and other Service Departments a copy for information.

The Air Ministry has now sent a signal to the Air Officer commanding R.A.F. Hong Kong, giving him his instructions with regard to the command of the Services in Hong Kong following the resumption of civil administration.

In accordance with paragraph 3 of C.0,S,(46) 113,

A copy of this signal is being sent to the Colonial Office (A,M,Signal APX 6537 dated 19th May).

I assume that the Colonial Office are notifying the Governor of Hong Kong separately of the Command arrangements which have been agreed. You will remember that the proposed arrangement includes the appointment of

e member a senior member of the Civil Administration as of the Interservice Committee to assist in the co-ordination of matters in which both civil and military interests are involved.
