We do not consider that an increase in the overall eir strength in the Far East is justified, and adhere to our previous estimate of forces required.

Recommendations

We recommend that:-

(b) The Defence of Bases Committee should be invited to

take into account C.-in-C. Hong Kong's appreciation and this paper in determing the scale of defences

to be provided at Hong Kong over a period of the next five years.
