Dear Üribbett,

Please refer to Air Ministry letter No. A. 842908/46/5.9(0) or the 6th of April, 1946, about the conclusion renoheŭ by the Chiefs of StaIT Dermittee that there is no longer any justifiontion for the construction of an airfield at Ping Shan (Hong Kong) to meet Service requirements.

we have now sean air dom odore Darley's report, which ma circulated to the Chiefs of turf Committee (0.0, 3. (46)98(0) or the 26th of March, 1946) and the telegram sent to the Jams under-in-chief, Hong Kong, with instructions that all work on Ying Chun should be abandoned forthwith. The Chiefs of <taff expressed the hope that it would be found possible to proceed with an airfield at Leep lay for civil purposes. Faragraph 11 of Darley's report particularly stresses the need for an early decision on this point. lie says that, before work or be started ut Deep Bay, an 1000sa rond of about two miles will have to be built, and that as this rond will have to aross paddy land, and at least one month's notice must be given to landowners before work can be begun, it is doubtful whethor it could be constructed before the monsoon, which beş ing about the 1st of June, coreover arops will be planted in June, and if it is not possible to convey a docision to Hong Kong in tine to give the nece:sury one month's
