At (75) is a letter from the Chairman of the China Association in which he gives the views of his Committee on the need for an international air- port at Hong Kong. He makes the following points:-

(1) The Committee understand that the present

airport is inadequate for large aircraft and that certain airlines are already looking to Canton to supply their needs.

(2) They view with concern the prospect of Hong Kong losing its key position.

(3) They desire to represent that an airfield

of adequate size be constructed.

(4) If the construction of such an airfield is already under consideration, that this should be undertaken without further delay, 1.e. before the question of the incidence of cost has been decided.

Reply to the Chairman saying that (1) and (2) are being kept in mind, referring to the new B.0.A.C. service between Singapore and Hong Kong; that H.M.G. are in favour of (3); but that, with reference to (4), there are, quite apart from financial questions, certain political and technical considerations which
