Subject....COMMUNAL TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVING SITES AT
HONG KONG.
Forwarded herewith is Hong Kong Government Surveyors
Provisional Reconnaissance Report (as opposed to a detailed Survey)
on the Swamp Sito at Mai Po, west of San Tin.
This site was selected by the Board during its visit to the Now Torritorios, accompanied by Government representativos on April 17th, after the Board has boon urged by the Governor to ondeavour to find a site whore rosumption of cultivated land would not be involved. Actually, in this case, hitherto undovoloped land would eventually become available for cultivation, and for this reason it is highly desirable that ovory effort should
be made to utilize this sito. On the onelosod sketch only
12 masts are shown; this was an assumption on the part of the surveyor, and there is no reason why the mumber of masts should not be increased to moot all the Rhombic requirements.

From the Geographic Soction Goncral Steff Map Nɔ. 3863 Shoot 10 (Squr.ro 08/09 77/78), it will be appreciated that an area of 250 noros is obtainable, and, subject to the oxponso involved in roclamation, drainago and foundations not boing prohibitive, the site is suitable for either Transmitting or Roceiving purposes.
3.
The only scrconing is roughly botwoon 90 and 160 degroos and this could be avoided, or reduced below the roquisite tolerance (in the case of the case of the Australian Rhxabio or Rhombios)
by utilising the Westorn and North Western oxtremities of the sito. The round-the-clock Rhaubics schone would probably have to bo modified in favour of a sai circular sito with buildings on the roadside.
4.
The necessity of obtaining the requisito minimum spacing ɔf 5 miles between Transmitting and Receiving Sitos howovor restricts us to tho Ping Shen area for a socond sito.
5.
If Ping Shan is considered unsuitable, tho only alternativo
is the originally choson Transmitting site of Cablo and Wireless Ltd., noar FANLING, and this might nocossitato moving the Mai Po Site roughly two miles to the South to obtrin widor seperation and thon would involvo using privately cultivated land in both areas.
6.
Again, if the Ping Shan/Mai Pɔ soparation is considered tɔ be tɔɔ close tɔ the minimum requirements, then Ping Shen/Fanling or the Fanling.
Two miles south of Mai Pɔ sitos aro tho only answor.
