ROAD TRAFFIC ORDINANCE, 1957. (No. 39 of 1957).

VEHICLE AND ROAD TRAFFIC (PARKING AND WAITING) REGULATIONS, 1958.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5 of the Road Traffic Ordinance, 1957, the Governor in Council has made the following regulations-

"register" means a register in such form as shall be prescribed in the case of a Council car park by the Council and in the case of a non-Council car park by the Commissioner, in which an attendant shall enter the registration mark of motor vehicles in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (3) of regula- tion 341

"ticket" means a ticket issued to the driver of a motor vehicle in

accordance with the provisions of regulation 25;

"warning instrument" means any instrument fitted to or carried on or in a vehicle for audibly signalling its approach or presence.

PART 1.

Citation and interpretation.

These regulations may be cited as the Vehicle and Road Traffic (Parking and Waiting) Regulations, 1958.

In these regulations, unless the context otherwise

requires-

"attendant" means a person appointed to be an attendant at a car park in accordance with the provisions of regulation 22; "car park" means a place designated by the Commissioner as a car park in accordance with the provisions of regulation 19; "cleaner's permit" means a permit issued by the Commissioner

in accordance with the provisions of regulation 16;

"Council" means the Urban Council;

"Director" means the Director of Urban Services; "monthly pass" means a pass issued in accordance with the

provisions of regulation 23;

"parking meter" means an apparatus constructed and designed to receive and indicate payment for the use of a space in a parking place for the purpose of parking a motor vehicle, and such apparatus shall be of such design and construction as shall have been approved by the Commissioner and shall be maintained to his satisfaction;

"parking place" means a place designated by the Commissioner in accordance with the provisions of regulation 4 as a place where vehicles may wait or be parked;

Restriction of parking and waiting in roads.

3. (1) No person shall park any vehicle or cause or permit Restriction any vehicle to wait in any place on any road or length of road on parking

and on which there is a parking place and a system of street lighting waiting. furnished by means of lamps not more than two hundred yards apart other than in a parking place or in a car park.

(2) No person shall park any vehicle or cause or permit any vehicle to wait on any road within fifty feet of a place set aside under any enactment as an omnibus or bus stop, if such stop is on the same side of the road on which such vehicle is parked.

(3) The provisions of paragraph (1) are in addition to and not in derogation of the provisions of any other enactment.

4. (1) The Commissioner may designate any place on any Designation road as a place where vehicles may wait or be parked and may

of parking places. appropriate the use of such parking place for any particular period or to any particular class or type of vehicle, and may revoke or amend or temporarily suspend the operation of any such designation.

(2) The Commissioner may indicate the designation of a parking place by the delineation of a continuous or intermittent white line or by the placing of studs in the road so as to enclose the parking place on all sides by which access may be lawfully obtained for a vehicle.
