FACTORIES AND Industrial Undertakings (RADIATION) SPECIAL REGULATIONS, 1957.
In exercise of the powers conferred by subsections (2) and (5) of section 5 of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, 1955, the Commissioner of Labour has made the following special regulations-
PART 1.
General.
1. These regulations may be cited as the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Radiation) Special Regulations, 1957.
2. In these regulations-
"affected industrial undertaking" means any industrial under- taking in which lonising radiations are used or generated or in which radioactive substances are manufactured, stored or handled;
"ionising radiation" includes X-rays and the radiation from
radioactive substances;
"luminising" means the application of luminous compounds to
any surface or the handling of luminous compounds for the purposes of any trade or manufacture;
"luminous compound" means luminous material containing any
radioactive substance;
"radioactive substance” means any substance consisting of or
containing any radioactive chemical element.
3. No person shall carry out in aid of an affected industrial undertaking any work or process involving the use of ionising radiations without the written permission of the Commissioner.

Control of Exposure,
4. The proprieor of any affected industrial undertaking shall Precau- ensure that—
(2) the exposure to ionising radiations of workers employed by him is maintained at the lowest possible level, and in no case shall he permit any worker employed by him to be exposed to a dose of ionising radiations exceeding 0.3 rad in any one week:
(b) workers employed by him handle only the minimum quantities of radioactive substances and for the minimum period necessary for any work in progress;
(c) in any case where the dose of ionising radiation received by any worker employed by him exceeds or is likely to exceed the maximum permissible dose, such precautions, including the use of remote control methods and pro- tective screening, as may be approved by the Com- missioner, are used.

(c) unless such proprietor has in his possession a statement in such form as the Commissioner may prescribe signed by such person declaring that he is aware of and under- stands the provisions of this regulation.
