Provided that-
(i) the Governor may approve any such officer's continued service in this Colony after attaining such age, which approval shall, in the case of a judge. be given in accordance with the directions of the Secretary of State;
(ii) a female officer holding a pensionable office on the 1st day of April, 1957, may elect to retire on attain- ing the age of 50 years by giving to the Governor notice in writing of such election on or before attain- ing the age of 49 years and such election shall be irrevocable.

An Ordinance to amend the Births and Deaths Registration
Ordinance, Chapter 174.
[1st April, 1957.]
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Births and Deaths Short title Registration (Amendment) Ordinance, 1957, and shall come into and operation on the 1st day of April, 1957.

2. Section a of the Births and Deaths Registration Ordinance Amend- (hereinafter referred to as the principal Ordinance) is amended by ment of the deletion of the definition of "Registrar" and the substitution (Cap. 174). therefor of the following definitions-
"Registrar" means the Registrar of Births and Deaths, and in-
cludes any deputy registrar of births and deaths;
