more than four inches from the back rest being disregarded when measuring the clear space herein referred to; and
(b) there is a clear space of at least nineteen inches between any part of the front edge of a scat and any part of any other seat which faces it.
(5) All passenger seals on omnibuses shall provide an adequate degree of comfort with suitable seats and seat backs.
(6) Seals over a wheel arch shall not be placed in such a position as to cause discomfort to passengers.
(7) Where any transverse seat is so placed that a passenger seated upon it is liable to be thrown forward through an entrance or down a stairway an effective screen or guard shall be placed so as to provide protection for any passenger occupying the seat.
(8) No part of any seat on the left hand side of the driver shall be in front of a line passing through the front edge of the driver's seat at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and any seat on the left of the driver's seat and in line with it must face forward.
65. The shortest distance between the edge of any step well and a vertical plane passing through the front edge of a seat of an omnibus shall not be less than nine inches.
66. All glass used in the construction of an omnibus shall be of safety glass.
67. In the case of a single-decked omnibus with a permanent top or the lower deck of a double-decked vehicle the side windows, when open, shall be adequately guarded to a height of thirty-nine inches from the floor.
68. The number of passengers on each deck of an omnibus for whom in accordance with these regulations seats are provided or who are permitted to be carried standing while the omnibus is in motion shall be clearly marked with letters not less than half an inch in height inside the vehicle (in the case of a double- decked omnibus, inside the lower deck) and on the outside of the vehicle either at the rear or on the near side:

Provided that in the case of a continuous seat the number of passengers for whom that scat is provided shall be so calculated that one person shall be counted for each complete length of fifteen inches measured in a straight line length-wise on the back of each seat; and where any such continuous seat is fitted with arms for the purpose of separating the seating spaces and such arnis are so constructed that they can be folded back or otherwise put out of use such seat shall be measured for the purpose of this regulation as if it had not been fitted with such arms,
69. (1) Adequate artificial lighting shall be provided for the Lighting. illumination of every deck of an omnibus with a permanent top.
(2) At least one Tamp shall be provided as near as is practicable to the top of every staircase leading to an upper deck of an omnibus without a permanent top.
70. (1) Every omnibus shall be so designed that the driver Driver's has adequate room and can easily reach and quickly operate the accom controls.
(2) The accommodation for the driver shall be so arranged as to afford adequate protection during inclement weather, and means shall be provided where necessary to prevent light from the interior of the omnibus from incommoding the driver.
(3) The accommodation for the driver shall be divided off by means of a partition behind the driver's seat extending up- wards not less than thirty inches from the floor level, and by a continuation of the partition, or guard rails on the left of the driver not less than eighteen inches from the centre of the steering wheel at any point.

11. The steering pillar of an omnibus shall be on the right Steering or offside of the vehicle and the driver's seat shall be so placed as pillar. to permit him to give by hand the usual traffic signals, on the offside of the vehicle.
72. (1) There shall not be any seat, gangway or passage on Driver's the right hand side of the driver's seat in an omnibus.
(a) The driver's seat shall be capable of being adjusted in relation to the steering wheel of the vehicle so that it can be moved from twelve inches to at least sixteen inches from the
seat.
