Council CHAMBER,

19th April, 1955-

Explanatory Nole.

(This Nate is not part of the regulations, but in intended to indicate their general purport).

A now form of vaccine is now being used for the inoculation of dogs against rabies which will permit some relaxation of existing medical procedure in regard to persons bitten by dogs. An inoculated dog is at present identified by a metal badge on its collar but it is considered that if any such relaxation is to take place a more certain means of identifi- cation should be employed. Regulation 4 introduces & new regulation requiring one ear of every inoculated dog to be tattooed with a mark or number referring to the date of the inoculation. In the event of this mark or number becoming indecipherable another inccalation will be required under regulation 3 before a lloence is renewed.

2. The effective period of Inoculation with the new vaccino is at least three years as opposed to one year with the old. Regulations 2 and I provide for this increased period of effectiveness.
