MERCHANT SHIPPING ORDINANCE, 1599.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 28 of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899, the Governor in Council hereby amends Table O (B) in the regulations made under the said Ordinance, and published as Government Notification No. A168 in Supplement No. 2 of the Gazette of the 19th August, 1949, as follows ;~~

AMENDMENT.

In Table O (B), regulation (5), which relates to exemptions, is hereby amended by the addition of the following as sub- paragraph (d) thereof ;~~

**(d) cable ships of the Great Northern Telegraph Company Limited.”

Note: The reason for this amendment is to exempt cable ships from the charges listed in Table O (B) which were designed chiefly to enable the Government to levy a charge on vessels using Hong Kong waters for lying-up purposes. The exemption is made on the grounds that cable ships are in full commission and at stand-by notice.
