PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency NORMAN LOCkbart Smith, Esquire, the Officer Administering the Government of the Colony of Hong Kong and its Dependencies.
WHEREAS by Article 2 of the Hong Kong (Coinage) Order, 1036, it is provided that the Governor may with the approval of the Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury and a Secretary of State at any time declare by Proclamation that all or any of the coins referred to in the Schedule to the said Order shall cease to be legal tender as from a date to be specified in the Proclamation and such coins shall accordingly cease to be légul tender as frum such date; provided that in the case of British Dollars the date upon which such coins are to cease to be legul tender shall be not earlier than three months after the date of the Proclamation; and as from the dule upon which such British Dollars cesse to be legal tender in the Colony the British Dollar Order, 1895, shall be repealed:
AND WHEREAS by Article of the Hong Kong (Coinage) Order, 1938, it is provided that the Interpretation Ordinance, 1911, as amended by any subsequent Ordinance, applies to the interpretation of the said Order as it applies to the interpretation of any Ordinance or enactment in force in the Colony:
AND WHEREAS by Section 39A (1) of the Inter- pretation Ordinance, 1911, the word "Governor* includes the officer for the time being administering the fovernment of Hong Kong:

NOW 1, the said Officer Administering the Government in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the said Articles with the approval of the Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury and of the Secretary of State for the Colonies do hereby PROCLAIM and DECLARE that the British Dollar shall cease to be legal tender as from the first day of August, 1937.
Given under my band and the Public Seal of the Colony at Victoria, Hong Kong, this thirtieth day of April, 1937.
