has of late years declined, the total in 1884 being 4,397 piculs as compared with 4,377 piculs in 1883, 8,667 piculs in 1882, 4,665 piculs in 1881, 8,760 piculs in 1880, and 10,063 piculs in 1879. The quantity of Tea exported is very small, and reached only 8,400 piculs in 1884. A considerable trade is done in Sugar, there being 821,961 piculs brown and 995,937 piculs white exported in 1884, which shows a steady increase in the rate of production. A large Sugar Refinery, the property of the China Sugar Refining Co. of Hongkong, has been erected here, and is now actively at work. A large bean-cake factory was also started in 1882. The value of the trade of the port for 1884 was Tls. 19,772,318, as compared with Tis. 20,175,168 in 1883, and Tls. 19,671,417 in 1882.
