HONGKONG ORDINANCES.
VI. Numbering Houses and Stalls, and Regis- from Year to Year, and at the highest Yearly tering the same. Each House and each Stali in Rent that can be reasonably gotten for the same, every Market shall be numbc,ed, and a Register of the First Yearly Rent thereof for the Year com. the same by its proper Number shall be kept in, mencing on the First Day of July now n-It coming the Office of the Surveyor (ieneral, which Register to be ascertained by way of Public Auction, and aha!! also contain an Entry of the name of the the highest Bidder thereat of approved responsibilty actual Lessee or Tenant of the same, the Premium to be declared the Lessee for the said Term, with therefor, the Rent thereof, and the Term of Lease, right of preference, in the renewal of every such and such Entry shall be prima facie evidence of the Term, to the actual Tenant thereof: But the letting of all Stalls and Lan to be by the Month, and the facts thereby appearing.
Lessees thereof to be ascertained by way of Lot from among the Applicants for the same, with the like right of preference, and at such Rents us abal) from time to time be, by His said Excellency in Council, ascertained and fixed and signified unto
VII. Certain marketable Articles may be sold out of Markd-Licensed Hawkers may lawfully hawk, for sale, any Green Vegetables, Fruit, Bean Curds, Congee, Confectionary, and Soup; and Boatmen may lawfully sell any Fresh Fish from their Boats or Vessels to the Crews or Occupants of other Boats the said Surveyor General. or Vessels, at a distance from the Shore of at lenat XIII. Not more than One Building to be holden, Three Hundred Feet; neither shall this Ordinance-No Person shall occupy or hold, for himself or extend to probibit boná fide Public Sales by licensed for another, more than One Building in a Market, Auctioneers, or Sales (not being Sales of Rawithout the written Permission of the Surveyor Butcher's Meat) in Shops or Stores not kept by General upon cause shown. Asiatics, nor the sale of Rice, nor to prevent any Person from selling on his own Premises any Bread, Milk, Congee, Confectionary or Soup, or Salt Fish, by Hawkers as aforesaid, "not being less at any one time than the Weight of One Picul, nor (if a Licensed Victualler or Keeper of a Boarding, Eat- ing, or Coffee House, or Cook Shop) from supplying any cooked Provisions to a Customer.
VIII. All other sales of marketable Articles out of Market prohibited. —All Persona soever within the said District of Victoria or the Harbour thereof, (except in the cases specified in Section Seven), are hereby forbidden to sell or expose for Sale in any Place soever, not being a Public Market within the meaning of this Ordinance, any Articles of Food for Man usually sold or exposed for sale in a Public Market.
IX. Sala in Markets to take place in Stalls or Shops. No Sales within any Market (except in cases to which Section Eleven is applicable) shall take place but in a Stall or in a Shop.
X. Underletting forbidden.—No Lessee or Renter of a Stall, or of a Shop or House, within any Market, shall underlet or assign the same, or any part thereof, without the written License of the Surveyor General.
XIV. New Buildings.-The Rent reserved in respect of any new or additional Building in a Mar- ket shall be after the same rate, and payable at the same time, as the Rents of other Buildings of the same kind in the same Market.
XV. Purtnership and Shop Seals.—Every Lestee or Tenant, as soon as may be after being accepted as such, and before entering into possession of any such Building, shall furnish the Surveyor General with a written Statement of the Names of all Persons, if any, having any Copartnery interest with him in his business, to be carried on thereon or incidentally thereto, and also the impression of the Seal (if any) of his Shop or Firm.
XVL Absence from the Colony.-No actual Lee- see or Tenant of any such Building, registered as the sole Lessee or Tenant thereof, shall be at any one time absent from the Colony for a period of Six consecutive Months.
XVII Alterations of or additions to Buildingı. -No alteration in or addition to any auch Building shall be made or commenced by the Lessee of Tenant thereof, without the written Sanction of the Surveyor General being first obtained.
XVIII. False Weights, Coin, dc--False or un- lawful Scales, Weights, or Measures, Counterfeit Coin, and Base Cash, are hereby forbidden to be used in any Market by any such Lessee or Tenant, and all such Scales, Weights, and Measures, Coin and Cash, shall be impounded and destroyed by the Superintendent of Police. 1 XIX. Dangerous Substances.-Dangerous explo- sive or combustible Substances, in a larger quantity than One Catty in all, shall not be kept within any Market by any such Lessee or Tenant.
XI. Wholesale Depots to be provided in sach Market.-In such Markets as may be by the Go- vernor in Council thereunto specially determined, and which shall be notified as aforesaid, there shall be set apart and numbered by the Surveyor General, Lan or Entrepots, for the sale and purchase by wholesale of Swine, Fish, Fowl (whether alive or dead), Vegetables, and Fruit, whereat Dealers having Stalla or Shops in such Market may purchase
XX. Erection or adaptation of Slaughter-houses, their supplies of the same. XXL Slaughtering elsewhere prohibited.-No Person shall within the said District of Victoria slaughter any Cattle or dress any Carcass for Sale XII. shall at all Times during such Period of the Day with, the Provisions of the Sections of this. For every Ofence against Sections Four, Caule, in au unaholesome condition-No Persuti abail keep, sell, or expose for sale anywhere, or Twenty-six, Twenty-seven, or Twenty-eight, a Fide bring into this Colony or any Market or Slaughter.not exceeding Fire Hundred Dollars, over and house, any Article of Food for Man which shall be above (in Cases of Nuisance under Section Four) in an unwholesome Condition or unfit for such the Expense of, or incident to, abating and removing Food; or bring, lead, carry, or drive into, or keep the same; or, instead of such Fine, lmprisonment or slaughter in this Colony or any Slaughter-house, for a Teric not exceeding Six Months, for every or permit to be so brought, led, carried, or driven Offence against either of the said Sections. thereto, or kept or siaughtered therein, any Cattle which shall be unfit for slaughter.
2. For every Offence against Sections Eight, Nine, or Eleven, a Fine not exceeding Twenty-fire Dollars, or Imprisonment for a Term not exceed-

For every Offence against Sections Ten, sell, or expose for Sale in, or bring into this Colony or any Market or Slaughter-house, any Fodder for Twenty-one, or Twenty-two, a Fine not exceeding Beasts which shall be in an unwholesome Condition, One Hundred Dollare, or Imprisonment for & Term or unfit for such Fodder, or to give, or allow to be not exceeding Three Months 4. For every Offence against Section Thirteen, given, any such Fodder to any Beaks. XXV. Licensed Porters.No Person shall act or Sections Sixteen to Nineteen inclusive, the for- as Porter in any Market, without being thereunto feiture of the Lease or Tenancy of the Offender. 5. For every Offence against Section Twenty- Licensed in Writing by the Superintendent of Police. XXVI. Superintendent of Police and his Officers three, a Pine not exceeding Two Hundred Dollars, to have free access. XXXII. XXXIII. Interpretation of " Catti.”—The word Cattle" in this Ordinance shall incinde Swine, and all graminivorous Beasts, except Horses, Asses, and Mules.

XXVIII. Disqualification of certain Persons in respect of interest.-No Person in the Public Service, and no Person in the employment or Member of An Ordinance for Penal Servitude.-[15th June, the Family of any Person in such Service, abali, either in his own right or in the right of another, and either for his own benefit or for the benefii of another, and either at Law or in Equity, be directly or indirectly interested in or concerned An Ordinance for the prevention of Offences touch- with any Market, Stall, Building, or Slaughter- house as aforesaid.
XXIX. Rents, Fees, and Taxes, how payable.

All Monies payable to the Crown under this Or-An Ordinance for Practitioners in Law. [12th dinance for Rents, Fees, or Taxes, auall be paid in advance on the First Day of every Month, or within Seven Days next after to the Registrar General, and shall be, within Turee Days next after receipt thereof, paid over by him into the Treasury, to the use of the Crown.
XXX. Monies to be paid in current Dollars.— All Sume of Money to be paid under, or by virtue of this Ordinance, or any of its Provisions, are to be paid in current Dollars.
XXXI. Penalties for Offences.-All Violations or Disobediences of, or Defaults in compliance
