$ for T on MTRC train disruption
The Secretary for Transport, Mr Gordon Siu, today (Thursday) asked the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC) to make every effort to ensure that they provide a safe, reliable and efficient train service.
He conveyed the Administration's concern to the chairman of MTRC, Mr Jack So, after the suspension of train services between Mei Foo and Prince Edward stations.
Mr Siu said he had also decided to invite the Deputy Chief Inspecting Officer of Railways of the United Kingdom Railway Inspectorate, Mr Alan Cooksey, to come to Hong Kong to look into the recent spate of incidents relating to the disruption of MTRC train services.
"I have asked Mr Cooksey to investigate the causes of recent incidents and to advise on the necessary remedial measures. Mr Cooksey's report will be published," Mr Siu said.
Commenting on today's suspension of train service, Mr Siu said he was satisfied with the emergency repair work taken by MTRC.
He pointed out that upon notification of the incident, the Transport Department immediately activated its Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre to arrange alternative transport for the travelling public.
