Salt water for flushing in Tai Po

The Water Supplies Department announced today (Sunday) that the flushing water supply in Tai Po will soon be changed from the present use of fresh water to salt

water.

This is part of the department's plan to supply salt water to Sha Tin and Tai Po new towns for flushing with an aim to save the precious fresh water, said a spokesman for the department.

The conversion works will be carried out in three phases starting from July 16 and be completed by November.

During the conversion, flushing water supply in the respective works area will need to be temporarily suspended. The suspension, however, is expected to last not more than one and a half days.

The first phase of the supply conversion will commence on July 16, covering areas in the Tai Po Industrial Estate.

Affected buildings will be served with advance notices on the conversion of the flushing supply and the duration of the temporary suspension.

Any enquiries on the temporary suspension can be made to the department's 24- hour hotline 2565 2368.

The conversion works for Sha Tin had been successfully carried out between August and October last year.
