Other promotion activities include fashion shows featuring the work of Hong Kong designers, film festivals and concerts by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra of the Urban Council, "Hong Kong Wonders Never Cease" promotion showing the many facets of Hong Kong, and a variety show featuring some of Hong Kong's top artistes at the Universal CityWalk in to be presented by Television Broadcasts Ltd Hollywood.
The premiere of "Hu-du-men" (Stage Door), on the opening night of film festivals, will be attended by the leading actresses Josephine Siao and Anita Yuen as well as director Shu Kei.
A special feature of this year's promotion is the designation of Professor Charles Kao, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, as Hong Kong's first Distinguished Fulbright Scholar. The Fulbright Programme has been referred to as "the largest and probably most successful cultural exchange programme in history", and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The promotion is supported by major business firms in Hong Kong, including Cathay Pacific Airways, Hong Kong Bank, Hutchison Whampao Ltd, Marco Polo Hotels and the Sino Group.
On June 12, Mrs Chan will leave for Washington where she will meet with senior officials of the US Administration and Congressmen. The purpose is to build on the Governor's visit to Washington earlier this month, and to further lobby for the unconditional renewal of China's MFN status. Whilst in USA, Mrs Chan will also attend editorial board meetings and brief the media on her visit and on the latest developments in Hong Kong.
Mrs Chan will return to Hong Kong on June 16.
