Revocation of banking licence after merger
A Monetary Authority spokesman said today (Tuesday) that the banking licence of NBD Bank has been revoked.
The spokesman said that the revocation was at NBD Bank's request, and resulted from the merger of its holding company, NBD Bancorp, Inc with First Chicago Corporation in the United States. The operations of the branch have been merged with those of the Hong Kong branch of The First National Bank of Chicago.
There are now 185 licensed banks in Hong Kong, of which 154 are incorporated outside Hong Kong.
