Mr Ho added: "The HES has been conducted very smoothly. The retail outlets which supply price information regularly are also very co-operative. I am very grateful to all concerned. With such co-operation, the quality of the CPIs can be guaranteed."
The rebased CPI series, for the reference months from October 1995 to March 1996 are presented in Table 2.
The rebased CPI series for subsequent months will be published in the press releases and the CPI monthly reports for the corresponding months. But the consumer price inflation rate, as measured by the year-on-year rates of increase in the CPIs, will continue to be based on the old series, until the new series is sufficiently long for such
purpose.
Concurrent with the newly based CPI series, the 1989-90-based CPI series will be published until March 1997. A detailed report of the 1994-95 HES will be available by the end of May this year.
