Restaurant receipts in volume terms are derived from receipts in value terms after adjusting for price changes. The relevant components of the Consumer Price Index are used as deflators.

Table 1 presents the revised figures for the total receipts and total purchases of the restaurant sector for the third quarter of 1995 and the provisional figures for the fourth quarter of 1995.

Table 2 shows the value and volume indices of total receipts by type of restaurant for the fourth quarter of 1994, the third quarter and the fourth quarter of 1995, with the quarterly average from October 1989 to September 1990 taken as 100. Also tabulated are comparisons of the results of the fourth quarter of 1995 with those of the third quarter of 1995 and the fourth quarter of 1994; comparisons of total receipts in 1995 with 1994 are also given.
