Importation of fireworks warned
Members of the public are reminded not to bring any lireworks into Hong
Anyone found in possession of fireworks would be charged under the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, a spokesman of the Customs and Excise Department said today (Thursday).
In the past week, customs officers at control points had found a total of 13.2 Kg of assorted fireworks from incoming lorries and passengers. Two drivers were arrested.
The spokesman pointed out that the maximum penalty for committing the offence under the Dangerous Goods Ordinance is a fine of $25,000 and imprisonment for six months.
In 1995, Customs had seized over 7,600 Kilogrammes of fireworks, valued at about $480,000.
