The size of a signboard may be a factor in deciding whether or not its erection is prohibited under the above legislation or administrative

measures.

Staff of the Buildings Department regularly carry out inspections to identify dangerous, potentially dangerous or abandoned overhanging signboards for subsequent removal. The Department has also sought the support and co-operation of District Boards in carrying out district-based clearance operations.

Where the signboard owner can be traced, the Government will recover from him the costs of the removal works, including a supervision charge.

At present, only signboards containing non-commercial advertisement on matters of interest to the public are allowed to be displayed on Government land and there is no financial charge for such display. Commercial advertisements are not allowed to occupy Government land for display.
