New Chairman appointed to Civic Education Committee
The Government has appointed Mr Moses Cheng Mo-chi to succeed Dr Daniel Tse Chi-wai as Chairman of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) from tomorrow (Saturday).
Mr Cheng is a lawyer by profession and a Legislative Councillor since 1991. His chairmanship of the CPCE will be for the period between July 1, 1995 and March 31, 1997.
To strengthen the committee's work and to replace some members who had recently completed serving the terms of their appointments, the following have also been appointed members of the CPCE:
(i)
Mr Cheung Yin-tung, a teacher of the Kwong Ming School, a member of the Commission on Youth, a former member of the Yuen Long District Board and Chairman of the Yuen Long District Civic Education Committee;
(ii) Dr Patricia Ip Lai-sheung, a Consultant Paediatrician of the United Christian Hospital, Chairperson of the 1993 Conference on Children's Rights in Hong Kong, Chairperson of Against Child Abuse and Chairperson of the Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights;
(iii) Ms Elle Shum Mun-ling, Managing Director of SE Asia Resources Ltd. former Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority, and member of the Hong Kong Federation of Women;
(iv)
Mr Benny Tai Yiu-ting, a Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong, a former member of the Consultative Committee on the Basic Law and a member of the Bilingual Laws Advisory Committee; and
(v) Mr Andrew Yuen Wai-man, Marketing Manager of Dayton Industrial Co. and an active participant of the Girl Guides and Scouts movement.
Meanwhile, the Government paid tribute to the outgoing chairman, Dr Tse, for his commitment, leadership and guidance in spreading the civic education message during his seven years with the Committee.
