Services to traders will be further improved

The Director-General of Trade, Mr Tony Miller, today (Monday) expressed confidence that services to traders would be further improved with continued input from its new-term Customer Liaison Group (CLG).

Addressing its inauguration ceremony before the 1995-96 CLG convened its first meeting, Mr Miller said the Government was determined to improve public services and the Efficiency Unit of the Chief Secretary's Office had commissioned a consultancy study to provide professional advice.

"Apart from referencing the consultancy study, it is more important to listen to more views from our clients and to enhance the understanding of each other," he said,

"I believe that the new-term Customer Liaison Group will continue to successfully serve as a valuable bridge between the Department and traders."

Chairman of the Customer Liaison Group, Dr Victor Char Mou-zing, also stressed the importance of a link and noted that the past year had seen services improved with some of the suggestions made by the Group already implemented by the Department.

"I understand that the department will by the end of the year introduce an interactive telephone answering system to further enhance its enquiry service," he said.

Set up in April last year, the Trade Department's Customer Liaison Group comprises 30 members, with representatives from the sectors of import and export, manufacturing, sea and air freight, courier and transportation.
